Lady Gaga is a mega-talented superstar. So what do we “ordinary” superstars have in common with her? She was brave and gracious enough to share with the world her ongoing struggles from being sexually assaulted, and how it is still impacting her life today.
The reality is, we have all had our own painful experiences that have left their mark. Have you heard the term, “negative self-talk?” It is what we experience when we are unable to successfully get a challenging memory out of our heads. We keep repeating those ugly words and experiences over and over again in our minds, even if the original events have long since passed.
The important questions are:
1) How and why does this keep happening, and
2) What can we do to stop it?
The short answers are:
1) It is happening automatically and subconsciously, because science has proven that we have no conscious control over our thinking 95% of the time, and our thinking has been pre-wired or pre-conditioned from when we were very young.
2) The solution is, we must gain the ability to activate our own conscious thinking.
We CAN intentionally shift our negative, destructive, subconscious thinking to more powerful and productive conscious thoughts. This process purposefully interrupts and re-directs that negative self-talk.
I’m committed to being a megaphone for the message: You can stop the pain by taking back the power and control over your own thoughts.
Like we all have, I have experienced numerous challenges in my life. I was molested by a distant family member from the age of 3-8. I had so much anger and resentment about it – for most of my life. Until I found a way to activate my own conscious thinking and stop turning the power over my life’s happiness to him. While I will never forget what happened, I am no longer tortured in my mind by what happened.
I found the path to peace, and I refuse to turn that kind of power and control to anyone ever again.
I invite you to comment and share a challenging moment (personal or business) you or a loved one has experienced that is still plaguing your thoughts today.
Never forget, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
